Building a Partnership to Drive Digital Evolution

To enhance its digital learning experience, Algonquin College wanted to simplify its complex infrastructure and replace six learning management systems with just one: D2L’s Brightspace platform. With the help of D2L and its community, the college successfully migrated over 35,000 course sites, trained 1,500 faculty members, and built a flourishing student ambassador program for the new platform within just six months.

A digital book club and other unique ways that HWCDSB uses Ontario's VLE

Ontario’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is a dynamic learning platform powered by D2L’s Brightspace. The VLE is provided by the Ministry of Education at no cost to Ontario publicly funded school boards. Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) is the Catholic school board for Hamilton, Ontario, serving students in 48 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, and one adult and continuing education program. "I believe that the VLE is a rich resource of digital tools for all educators and students in Ontario. The VLE has radically transformed over the past few years and continues to become both a more user-friendly and mobile-friendly platform. It always keeps safety and security at its core and continues to make great strides in all areas." —Michael Noronha, TELT Contact, HWCDSB

Bringing students and teachers together with engaging distance learning

When British Columbia introduced a new curriculum, SIDES faced a major challenge: nearly all its courses needed to be revised, and some of its older paper-based materials needed to be rewritten for online delivery. SIDES used the Brightspace platform from D2L to create a new set of flexible and engaging courses fast, enabling teachers to provide the right level of content to meet each student’s needs.

Transforming the Way Students Access Education and Careers in Technology

Providing students with more opportunities to learn, to further their education into post-secondary, and to connect with their courses in a more meaningful way is of major importance to the SNP STEAM Academy. Created as an extension of Six Nations Polytechnic, the STEAM Academy provides a secondary-school education in a culturally diverse community, with a strong focus on connecting students to careers in the technology industry. Students can attend this program entirely for free. Using a blended learning approach, students can earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and earn college credits towards their college diploma within a 5-year period. And this is what makes them unique.

Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom

In an increasingly AI-driven world, it’s hard for schools to know how to prepare students for future careers in roles that may not even exist today. Necedah Schools is embracing D2L technology to help its students learn independently, in their own time and on their own terms—giving them the skills to adapt to whatever the future holds.

Educating a Global Industry

Educating the grain industry is one of Gafta’s key responsibilities—but with its membership spread across over 95 countries, face-to-face training is not accessible for everyone. Gafta worked with D2L to rejuvenate its distance learning program, providing a better user experience and innovative new courses.
