Accessibility at D2L

We are committed to reporting on the accessibility of D2L Brightspace openly and transparently. We view accessibility as an opportunity to continually improve user experience in our solution. Our Accessibility Conformance Report is based on automated and manual accessibility testing, involving a community of assistive technology users through our accessibility partner, and consultations with our client-led Accessibility Interest Group.

At D2L, we have a mature accessibility program. Our product process is closely guided by the most up-to-date accessibility standards – currently WCAG 2.1. Our accessibility program is cross-functional, which means each team takes ownership for accessibility in their own work. Accessibility exceptions are raised as high priority software defects and are triaged like other high-level defects. We take this approach because, at D2L, accessibility is not merely a checklist; it is a commitment to empower and engage individuals in their learning goals.

We align our product process with accessibility criteria contained in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. Reporting conformance means that we indicate whether we support or partially support each WCAG criterion (or indicate when a criterion is not applicable to our offering) and we state exceptions against the criteria that we support partially, indicating workarounds where available. We are committed to continually improving the accessibility of D2L’s Brightspace platform.

Our Accessibility Conformance Report dated March 31, 2023 linked on this page is based on the VPAT® Version 2.4 INTL template published by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC). It covers
