SUNY’s Bold Move to Transform Digital Learning
Discover how SUNY moved 370,000 students to Brightspace
From flexible templates to course options, it’s no wonder Brightspace finished first in class in G2’s report on the easiest to use learning management systems.
The results are in. According to the latest rankings, Brightspace was voted the easiest to use learning management system (LMS) in both the LMS and corporate LMS categories on G2.
G2 is a third-party software review website that helps people find the best solutions to their business problems. All reviews, whether positive or negative, come from verified users.
In the Easiest to Use Learning Management Systems category, G2 calculated each LMS’s usability score using a proprietary algorithm that factors in satisfaction ratings of how easy the product is to administer, how well the product meets business requirements, and more. Brightspace outranked Google Classroom, Canvas, Docebo, Blackboard Learn and many other LMSs.
According to data collected by G2, users scored Brightspace:
These scores are reflected in what people say about Brightspace. When they’re talking about why they love the platform, G2 users often call out how easy it is to use Brightspace, the flexibility it gives them and the value of templates for creating courses.
It’s a sentiment echoed by customers the world over. Yvonne Lim, director, Tui Tuia Learning Circle, UniServices in New Zealand shares how Brightspace acts as a digital backbone, enabling educators to easily create a variety of courses—synchronous and asynchronous, hybrid and in-person—to reach all learners.
More and more universities and colleges are moving to Brightspace for its simplicity and ease of use. The State University of New York (SUNY) is one such example. As the largest university system in the United States, it struggled with the fact that each campus had its own LMS, complicating educational and teaching experiences for students and faculty alike.
SUNY found its solution in Brightspace, which allowed them to simplify the learning experience for all stakeholders, transforming the chaos into a streamlined system.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is another institution that’s making the move to Brightspace. Before adopting Brightspace, NAIT was using Moodle as their LMS. Due to its open-source nature, NAIT relied on users to enhance the functionality and to build out future features within Moodle, which wasn’t sustainable in the long run. That, coupled with an inconsistent user experience, prompted them to explore other options. So far, they’ve been pleased with D2L’s support and the ease of migrating course content from one LMS to another.
