Change Management: An LMS Implementation Success Story
With Jeremy Cooper, Assistant Director for Digital Operations and Communications; Carol Van Zile-Tamsen, Associate Vice Provost and Director Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation; Jeffrey Kohler, Associate Director, Teaching Transformation; Don Trainor, Learning Systems Specialist, University at Buffalo

When the University at Buffalo (UB) made the decision to transition to D2L Brightspace, the scale and speed of the change required thoughtful planning, strong communication and the right partner. In this video, members of UB’s change management team share how a clear strategy and close collaboration helped ensure a smooth and successful LMS implementation.

From early, transparent communication to flexible training opportunities and disciplined execution, the team explains how they supported faculty, staff and students through every stage of the transition. Weekly check-ins, detailed timelines and access to the Brightspace community helped build confidence and keep the project on track.

As Associate Vice Provost and Director of the Office of Curriculum, Carol Van Zile-Tamsen explains, “D2L has been very helpful helping us manage this project. We have had weekly meetings with our project manager from day one.” And Jeffrey Kohler, associate director of teaching transformation, adds, “It’s really not a heavy lift to go from this previous LMS to Brightspace. And in fact, it’s going to pay off. It’s going to pay dividends for you and for your students.”

Watch to learn how strong change management, clear communication and the right partnership can turn a complex LMS transition into a positive experience for the entire campus community.
