Press Release
LONDON – JULY, 2025 – D2L, a global learning technology company, announces that Hogeschool Ghent (known as HOGENT) has chosen D2L Brightspace as its new learning platform to maximise student success through accessible, engaging and personalised digital learning experiences that empower both students and educators.
D2L Brightspace will replace HOGENT’s existing learning platform to deliver immersive learning experiences that engage students through a wide range of built-in tools, feature-rich, simple course design and an accessible, user-friendly interface. HOGENT chose D2L for its roadmap, vision and implementation. It also scored highly against the university’s functional requirements.
Selecting a new platform was a strategic decision focused on long-term added value. A strong learning platform not only enhances the student learning experience, it also empowers our teaching staff to meet tomorrow’s educational challenges. With Brightspace, we’re not just ready for the future, we’re shaping it.
Emma Roose, educational technology coordinator, HOGENT
“This is more than just about technology – D2L shares our vision on education at HOGENT. Brightspace will serve as the foundation for our future strategy and digital learning ecosystem,” according to Stefaan Vanbillemont, analyst educational technology at HOGENT.
HOGENT helps to inspire and empower people to make a meaningful difference in and for society through a wide range of professional and artistic learning programmes. With nearly 19,000 students, 2,400 staff members and 11 campuses and sites in and around Ghent, HOGENT is a vibrant and engaged learning community and digital learning is an important part of the university’s educational innovation.
“HOGENT has a strong pedagogical vision and an unswerving commitment to supporting students, educators and administrators through learning technology that can help optimise outcomes, improve efficiencies and meet the needs of learners inclusively,” said Rob Telfer, director of higher education EMEA at D2L “We have already formed an excellent working relationship with the team at HOGENT and are excited to build on this to help the university achieve its goals.”
D2L Brightspace is used by more than 20 million learners worldwide across schools, higher education, enterprise and membership associations. In September 2024, it was ranked highest among competitors for usability and innovation in the Tambellini StarChart—a report from leading higher education analyst firm, the Tambellini Group.
