As a university student, I am constantly thankful and amazed by how D2L Brightspace fosters such a seamless learning experience. All my schoolwork is always organized, quizzes are seamless, the perfect UI components are exactly where I need them to be and the list goes on.
That’s why when I learned that I was joining this team that is driven in its mission to transform the way the world learns in such innovative and solution-driven manners, I was over the moon.
I was a co-op student on the Localization and Knowledge team, and what really stood out to me during my time was the level of ownership I was given. While many co-op roles limit students to routine or administrative tasks, my experience at D2L was the opposite. Beyond simply completing my assigned responsibilities, I was encouraged to suggest changes, discuss new ideas or present alternate solutions. I was trusted to identify optimization opportunities, and my contributions were not only heard but genuinely valued by the team.
As a co-op student at D2L, you are given responsibility alongside a great sense of leadership, and that’s what made my experience truly memorable.
What makes a co-op experience especially exceptional is how connected you feel with your coworkers and colleagues. This is something D2Lers value greatly, and it can be seen through the many initiatives the company hosts: Cake Day, social committees, virtual communities, lounges and game rooms at HQ, weekly activity sessions, potlucks and so much more. These opportunities are what allow for true connection beyond work, which ultimately strengthens collaboration and enhances productivity.
Overall, my co-op experience at D2L was defined by trust, growth and meaningful connection. I was challenged to think critically, encouraged to lead with initiative and supported by a team that genuinely values collaboration. It was an environment where I wasn’t just learning, but contributing to real-world impact (and eating very well along the way—the kitchen snacks never disappointed).
I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I had as a co-op student, and I encourage all current or future D2L co-ops to enjoy their time—it really flies when you’re having fun.
