Every year, D2L Fusion brings customers, partners, industry experts and learning leaders together for several days of learning, collaboration and a look at what’s next. This year’s Solutions Spotlight showcased new innovations designed to help organizations create engaging learning experiences, save time and prepare for the future with confidence.

This year, we were excited to share news about a few of our products:

  • D2L Createspace
  • Creator+ and H5P
  • Brightspace Core
  • Corporate Learning
  • Security & Integrations
  • D2L Lumi

Let’s dive in.

D2L Createspace

Last year we gave attendees an early look at Createspace prototypes. This year, Kim Loebach, vice president, professional services, and Linda Feng, vice president, product management, announced that Createspace is ready for everyone to test and explore. Createspace gives teams a dedicated space to author, edit and manage reusable learning materials—pages, assignments, even entire source courses—so a single update can sync across every course where that content lives, instead of requiring a course-by-course fix.

Createspace also introduced a new capability built in partnership with University of Maryland Global Campus: aligning modules directly with skills taxonomies at scale, across hundreds of thousands of modules. Createspace will be available to everyone starting with the August release, with customers able to opt in through their D2L contact ahead of general availability in December.

Creator+ and H5P

Kim and Linda also walked through a year of investment in Creator+ and H5P, D2L’s interactive content tools. Smart Import, the generative AI tool that turns existing materials into interactive H5P content, now supports even more content types, including Single Choice Set and The Chase, bringing AI-assisted authoring into live, game-based engagement for the first time. A few other updates:

  • A refreshed H5P look and feel, with cleaner layouts, improved typography and organization-level theming
  • An updated Accessibility Conformance Report aligned with WCAG 2.2 A and AA
  • Retry support for Fill in the Blanks, even after a fully correct answer, to reinforce active recall

The team closed the segment by highlighting the impact of pairing platform with strategy, pointing to a learning transformation with the nonprofit Year Up United that drove a reported 710x increase in learner engagement with content, alongside 89% of learners reporting confidence in the skills they gained.

Brightspace Core

Lindsay Derraugh, director, corporate product strategy, and Lindsay Shipman, senior director, product operations, framed their segment around a simple idea: the learning journey doesn’t stop at graduation, and neither does D2L’s investment in the core Brightspace experience. Group work saw major upgrades, including faster, cleaner setup, support for delegated marking, co-marking and multi-evaluator workflows in group assignments, and administrative improvements like bulk editing of group names and a new opt-in Groups Management page. Categories can now support up to 1,000 groups, building on last year’s increase to 3,000 users per group.

One highlight was a new assessment feature inspired by a D2L Inspiration Sprint project from intern Benjamin. As of the August release, learners will be able to bookmark quiz questions to revisit and strike through answer choices they’ve ruled out—small changes designed to reduce cognitive load during assessments.

“It’s one of those improvements that seems obvious the moment you see it,” said Lindsay Derraugh, director, corporate product strategy at D2L. “Small supports like this help learners focus on demonstrating what they know, rather than figuring out how to navigate the assessment itself.”

The Content Experience also got an immersive viewer for a cleaner, more focused reading experience, with the table of contents set to collapse for even more screen space starting in September. New Sequential Learning capabilities let learners see upcoming modules and activities—even ones they haven’t unlocked yet—so they understand the full path ahead while organizations retain control over pacing.

Corporate Learning

The Lindsays also spent time on the realities of scaling learning across regions, languages and audiences—a challenge corporate, association, non-profit and government learning teams know well.

D2L Lumi Remix lets teams turn existing materials, like a PowerPoint deck, into a polished module and then modify it with AI: applying Creator+ elements, tailoring tone for a specific audience, or translating content into languages including French, Spanish, Arabic and Korean with a custom prompt.

To address duplicate learner accounts—a common headache in self-enrollment environments—a new Merge tool lets administrators transfer certificates and enrollments between accounts in seconds, so achievements follow the learner. Distributed administration also expanded, giving sub-organization admins the ability to manage courses, templates and org structures within their scope, with bulk and manual user creation coming soon.

Finally, a new suite of compliance capabilities, releasing this January, gives managers a real-time People Page to track what’s assigned, completed and at risk, plus Learning Groups with rule-based membership (location, hire date, department) that can auto-assign courses and handle recurring re-enrollment automatically. Later this year, learners will get their own view of active and completed learning, with search, sorting and estimated completion times, directly in the My Courses widget.

Security & Integrations

Ben Campbell, vice president, customer success, and Carrie Vail, senior director, product management, tackled a topic every admin in the room cares about: how tools connect safely to Brightspace.

The team introduced Brightspace Apps, a new, app-store-style experience for finding and installing integrations directly inside Brightspace—no more separate, manual setup process with each vendor. Available as part of the July release, Brightspace Apps gives admins full visibility into exactly what data an app requires before installing, uses secure LTI 1.3 authentication exclusively, and lets admins scope an app to specific org units, like a single department, before enabling it for anyone.

“That’s one of the ways we are helping to build trust between you and your chosen vendors,” said Ben Campbell, vice president, customer success at D2L.

Existing LTI integrations will continue to work as they always have. To bring more vendors into the new experience, D2L launched the Brightspace Builders program, offering partners a streamlined setup process along with improved documentation and modern integration methods for customers’ technical teams.

D2L Lumi

D2L Lumi closed out the Solutions Spotlight, with Dr. Cristi Ford, chief learning officer, and Jack Pinette, vice president, product strategy, sharing both impact data and a major new addition to the product.

Over the past year, Lumi usage has grown substantially across instructors, learners and courses, with Bloom’s Taxonomy data showing the tool supporting learners well beyond foundational tasks and into application and higher-order thinking. In sampled study sessions, two-thirds of learners showed progress toward understanding, and 98.4% of tutoring sessions cited course materials directly—keeping AI support grounded in course context rather than answers pulled from nowhere.

“We do not just want AI to give learners an answer,” said Dr. Cristi Ford, chief learning officer at D2L. “We want it to help them stay connected to the learning.”

Building on that foundation, the team announced Lumi Flow, a new layer of the learning experience that sits alongside course content and gives learners in-the-moment support for notes, questions, knowledge checks and progress tracking. Learners can highlight a concept, ask for an explanation or example and save it to a personalized study record as they move through the content. Lumi Flow enters beta with the September release for Lumi Pro users, and the team is inviting educators and learning teams to help shape it further at the D2L Lumi Lab.
