About This Series

AI Literacies in Practice: A Global Community Series is the conversation about AI that educators have been looking for. Launched on National AI Literacies Day 2026 with a community celebration that brought together practitioners, researchers, and institutional leaders from around the world, this four-part live series journeys through the eight Dimensions of AI Literacies two at a time, exploring how they show up in the real work of teaching, learning, and leading. The series is produced by Opened Culture and D2L, building on years of international research commissioned by UNESCO IITE and a growing global community that believes AI literacies are the key to aligning AI in education as a force for good.

What to Expect

This is not a webinar that you tune into and then check your email through. Dr. Angela Gunder and Dr. Cristi Ford co-host sessions that feel more like the best hallway conversation you’ve had at a conference, featuring educators and researchers who let us take a peek under the hood of how AI literacies are unlocking new possibilities for reimagining education. Each session blends live dialogue with recorded stories from global contributors, and every person in the room is part of shaping where this work goes next. This series builds toward the 2027 Global AI Literacies Conference, and it starts here.

Want to go deeper between sessions?

Each session in this series mirrors a module in AI Literacies Unlocked, the free open course where you can explore all eight dimensions at your own pace.

Title: Constructive and Critical AI Literacies: Building With AI and Asking What It Builds

Most conversations about AI in education start with the tools. This one starts with the people using them. What happens when educators stop asking “how do I use this?” and start asking “what am I building, and is it building something good?” That shift changes everything, and this session is where it begins.

Cultural and Civic AI Literacies: How AI Reflects Us and How We Put It to Work

Most people experience AI as something that happens to them. Cultural and Civic AI Literacies flip that script. They ask whether AI sees your community clearly, whether it carries the perspectives and histories that matter to the people using it, and what becomes possible when you stop being a passive consumer and start putting AI to work in service of something bigger than efficiency.

Confident and Creative AI Literacies: What You Create With AI Changes What You’re Ready For Next

Most people assume confidence comes first — that you need to feel ready before you can start creating with AI. But AI literacies are not something you stockpile before you act. They are built through the act itself. Every time you experiment with an AI tool, take a creative risk, or push back on an output that doesn’t sit right, you are developing the very confidence that makes the next experiment possible. This session explores why creative and confident AI literacies grow together, and why waiting to feel ready is the one thing that gets in the way.

Communicative and Cognitive AI Literacies: The Conversation That Changes How You Think

The earliest interactions most people had with AI looked like a transaction: type a prompt, get an answer, move on. But something has shifted. The conversation with AI is becoming a real conversation, one where context builds, ideas develop across exchanges, and the relationship between the person and the tool starts to reshape how both operate. This session explores what happens when communicating with AI stops being reactive and starts being relational, and what that shift reveals about how we think and learn.
