During D2L Launch Week, we explored our newest product releases and how organizations can use them to deliver better learning experiences. Two sessions examined two parts of that challenge. The first focused on how to put reusable content into practice, while the second considered what makes for intentional and successful AI adoption.

Highlights From Session 1: Scale Learning Across the Organization
The first session focused on ways to manage and deliver learning across teams, roles and audiences. Our presenters discussed product features and how Learning Services supports organizations. Plus, we were joined by Jarrod Armer, Construct GTA’s Partnerships and Development Supervisor, to find out how the organization is making trades training accessible to individuals and communities across Canada.
Making the Most of Your Content
The conversation began with Createspace, which gives learning teams a central place to build, organize, and collaborate on content and deploy it across courses. Consider a shared asset like a recurring compliance module or role-based activity. Teams can create or bring it into Createspace, make it available via a centralized library, and actively track where and how it’s being used. When content needs to be updated, teams can make changes and sync them to courses wherever content is being used.
The goal isn’t to require organizations to rebuild every course from scratch. We want to support the full content lifecycle—providing a repeatable workflow that teams can adopt over time and bringing creation and management closer together within D2L Brightspace.Linda Feng Vice President of Product, D2L![]()
Our presenters also shared some of the ways in which D2L Lumi can help organizations make learning more interactive while keeping people firmly in control:
- Lumi Coach can blend standard questions with H5P activities to improve recall and help add variety to longer training sessions.
- Lumi Learner Mode brings AI support and knowledge checks into a learner’s flow of work.
- The knowledge bank helps ground responses and guidance in your organization’s most up-to-date content and governance requirements.
The result we’re trying to achieve is consistent organizational support. Your employees get the same trusted answers from reliable sources you manage.Joy Ong Associate Product Manager, D2L![]()
Enhancements to Brightspace Core—including clearer status on module completion, API updates and accessibility updates—are helping to reduce operational friction and keep learners focused.
Putting the Tools Into Practice
Emily Sararas, Senior Director, Learning Services at D2L, shared examples of how the right tools and expertise can support organizations at any stage of their learning journey.
In one case, a client needed to build an entirely new learning program, but their starting point was relatively light. They had learning objectives, an outline of key topics, and some source material. The Learning Services team started by using Lumi Generate to create the initial content, then leveraged Lumi Remix to help refine it. They also incorporated D2L Creator+ elements for added interactivity and engagement.

In another case, the organization already had courses built, but it wanted support to deliver and manage them more effectively. Learning services is leveraging Createspace to bring that content directly into the Brightspace ecosystem, helping automate the migration and optimize the content. “We help customers go from simply having the tools available to confidently putting them into practice,” says Sararas.
Seeing It Come to Life
Construct is a social enterprise by Blue Door that delivers training, experience, support and connections to individuals facing barriers to housing or employment who want to start a career in the trades. The program has been rolled out to five communities across Canada. It has supported more than 900 learners, recorded completion rates of up to 90% and seen participants gain employment within six months.
Brightspace has played an important role in making that expansion possible by giving us a centralized place to organize our learning materials and support more consistent program delivery across our partner network. Rather than every community needing to build its own learning resource from scratch, we have established a blueprint that can support partners as they bring the program into their local community.Jarrod Armer Partnerships and Development Supervisor, Construct GTA![]()
Jarrod also described how Brightspace and D2L Lumi support different parts of the learning experience. “When we look at Brightspace and D2L Lumi together, they support two complementary parts of our work,” says Jarrod. “Brightspace provides the platform to organize and deliver learning, while D2L Lumi helps us create and refine content that supports that learning experience.”
Highlights From Session 2: A Virtual Roundtable on AI in Learning
The second session focused purposeful AI adoption, with Kim Loebach, D2L’s Vice President of Professional Services, sharing what organizations should consider as they move from experimentation to operational use. Her advice was direct: “Start with the problem, not the technology.”
An organization might focus on a learner need, such as timely support, or an operational challenge, such as a course-building process that takes too much staff time. Kim recommended choosing one high-value workflow, improving it end to end, measuring the before and after, and assigning someone to maintain the solution with clear guardrails.
If we can create capacity for our learning designers to focus on the work that requires creativity, judgment and human connection, that’s where things get extra interesting.Kim Loebach Vice President of Professional Services, D2L![]()
Bill Sheehan, D2L’s Global Head of Association Strategy, connected AI adoption to trust. Associations and corporate learning teams serve different audiences, he said, but both need to understand changing needs, offer relevant learning, and show the value of their work.
The future of learning isn’t about delivering more content. It’s about creating more value.Bill Sheehan Global Head of Association Strategy, D2L![]()
The Takeaway
Across the two sessions, the message was consistent: scale comes from combining purposeful technology and human judgment. Begin with a need, build repeatable workflows, and keep human expertise at the center.
