In this video, three K-8 teachers share their experiences and insights about teaching and learning in a virtual learning environment. You’ll be amazed at how easy Mrs. D has made it for young learners to navigate their classroom—just like big kids.

Meet the Teachers:

  • Annette Locklin: K-8 Guidance and Special Education
  • Sharayah Delsnyder: Remote Teacher, Grade 1
  • Samantha Kowalski: Remote Teacher, Grade 3-4

Mrs. Delsnyder, Mrs. Locklin and Mrs. Kowalski chat about their experiences with Brightspace, highlighting the platform’s flexibility, adaptability and ease-of-use for young students who are only just learning to read. Mrs. Kowalski and Mrs. Delsnyder emphasize the evolution of their Brightspace pages over the years and the benefits of the Sandbox feature, which allows teachers to experiment and refine their courses in a risk-free environment. Mrs. Delsnyder invites us to explore her visually engaging Brightspace classroom, which features subject-specific blocks that she uses to guide her grade one students through their day.

 Highlights

Mrs. Delsnyder, affectionately known as “Mrs. D” to her first-grade students, shares some of the creative and visually engaging ways she's set up her Brightspace classroom. “We have an L block for language, M for math, G for gym, S for science and social studies, and an F for French,” she explains, “And all of those are just a picture block with just that letter, so they [the students] know exactly where to click depending on the subject that we are in.” When it comes to creating an online classroom for first graders, Mrs. Delsnyder leans into the various tools Brightspace offers to help engage, entertain and educate. “They all know where to find me. They all know where to find their homework and their job, and the day runs smoothly because of that.”
