Building Brave Spaces for Student Success | K-8 Remote Teachers Share Insights
With Samantha Kowalski, Remote Teacher

Discover how D2L Brightspace supports learners with an inclusive, safe learning environment where they can thrive. In this video, three dedicated K-8 teachers share their experiences and insights with how Brightspace has helped transform the learning environment for students who learn in an exclusively remote environment. Brightspace is more than a space for learning; it’s a safe space where bravery takes root for even the youngest of learners.

Meet the Teachers:

  • Annette Locklin: K-8 Guidance and Special Education
  • Sharayah Delsnyder: Remote Teacher, Grade 1
  • Samantha Kowalski: Remote Teacher, Grade 3-4

Mrs. Delsnyder, Mrs. Locklin and Mrs. Kowalski discuss how Brightspace enables the creation of an inclusive and safe space for students who face challenges in traditional in-person settings. The teachers liken the Brightspace virtual classroom to a “brave space,” where students feel empowered to be themselves— to spread their wings and find their voice. While Brightspace can be used for in-person, hybrid or remote learning, these teachers speak to its impact in an exclusively remote teaching and learning environment.

Highlights:

These remote K-8 teachers are happy to share the transformative power of Brightspace in creating supportive and inclusive spaces where students feel safe. "The fact that they're [the students are] online has allowed them to come into their personality and be who they are," explains Mrs. Locklin, highlighting how remote learning has provided a safe and brave space for students who were previously bullied in in-person settings.
