Press Release
Global learning technology leader D2L announced today that it has quietly and seamlessly completed moving 100% of D2L clients* to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud, while adding important new improvements along the way.
“Three years ago, we set out to make this important change for our customers,” said D2L CEO John Baker. “We said we’d do it, we did it — and our customers can count on us to deliver. This is one of several major initiatives that D2L has focused on over the past three to five years to modernize our platform to ensure we’re best in class. We listened closely to our clients to make sure we were doing it right. As a result, and thanks to the tireless dedication of our employees, we’re seeing increased momentum in our business.”
Moving customers to a singular environment allows for numerous improvements to D2L’s Brightspace platform that were too complex to undertake when the platform was supported across multiple technologies. These improvements include:
- More frequent and automatic enhancements without disruption or downtime for our users
- Reduced complexity of infrastructure technology, which allows the D2L engineering team to focus on innovation
- Better overall stability and reliability for customers
- Numerous feature improvements to the core platform based on thousands of design sessions with clients
Changes such as these — while large, complex and challenging — are necessary to improve the overall experience for Brightspace users worldwide. By collaborating closely with customers to minimize disruption during this transformation, and by focusing on automation, D2L delivered a highly uneventful transition and successfully retained 98% of its education clients, despite the massive transition. With this latest transformation, D2L has cemented its reputation as a company unafraid to take on major change, and one that does what it says it will do.
“Our clients need us to provide them with certainty so they can deliver on their state-of-the-art learning programs. We bring the certainty they need,” said D2L COO Cheryl Ainoa. “The fact that this particular transformation was uneventful is entirely by design — and something we’re very proud of.”
*One customer in progress to complete the transition.
