D2L Achieves TX-RAMP Provisional Certification

D2L committed to working in coming months to fully meet new standard of data security in Texas

Press Release

D2L, a global learning technology company, has extended its security certifications to align with new cybersecurity requirements in Texas.

D2L Brightspace has achieved provisional certification for the Texas Risk and Authorization Management Program – or TX-RAMP – which aims to provide a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring of cloud computing services used by Texas state agencies, including public higher education institutions.

This certification means that D2L Brightspace can continue to service and support state agencies and education institutions in Texas. TX-RAMP adds to D2L’s existing security certifications, including ISO 27001 and ISO 27018. These widely recognized international security standards require D2L to maintain an ongoing, effective management of a rigorous security program.

“Certification for TX-RAMP demonstrates D2L’s continued commitment to critical standards in data security, bringing peace of mind to our customers in Texas and beyond,” says Nick Oddson, Chief Technology Officer at D2L. “We recognize the value and importance of personal data, as well as the threats that exist against it. We will always work to evolve our approaches to respond to the dynamic landscape of security and do our best to ensure your data is safe and secure.”

About TX-RAMP

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) has established a state risk and authorization management program (RAMP) that provides “a standardized approach for security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring of cloud computing services that process the data of a state agency.” DIR established a framework for collecting information about cloud services’ security posture and assessing responses for compliance with required controls and documentation. Beginning January 1, 2022, Texas requires that state agencies must only enter or renew contracts to receive cloud computing services that comply with TX-RAMP requirements.
