Senior People and Culture Generalist, 12 Month Contract

D2L is a cloud company that is modernizing education and building the Future of Work. The old models of teaching and learning are in the midst of the largest transformation in history, and D2L is at the heart of that fundamental shift.

New models of teaching and learning enable a personalized, student-centric experience – and deliver improved retention, engagement, satisfaction, and results for learners of all ages – in schools, campuses, and companies.

D2L is disrupting the way the world learns, by providing the next generation learning environment and solutions to engage and inspire learners. And most importantly, by giving customers a platform that is easy, flexible, and smart. No other company provides a solution as robust and innovative as D2L.

D2L has had a singular mission for 25 years and is dedicated to that same mission in the years ahead: to transform the way the world learns – and by doing so, we will help improve human potential globally.

Every application we receive is personally reviewed by a member of our Talent Acquisition team - yes, a real person looks at your resume! While we use AI tools internally to streamline tasks like meeting notes, summaries, and administrative work, these tools never rank resumes, make hiring decisions, or influence candidate evaluations.

At D2L, People and Culture plays a critical role in creating an environment where people can do their best work and grow meaningful careers. We’re looking for a Senior People and Culture Generalist who enjoys working closely with leaders and employees, navigating complexity, and translating people practices into practical, human‑centred solutions.

In this role, you’ll balance hands‑on employee support with thoughtful partnership across the business. You’ll contribute to core people programs, support leaders through change, and help continuously improve the employee experience in a global, evolving organization.

Major Responsibilities (How You Will Make an Impact):

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and leaders (Director level and below), supporting a wide range of people‑related topics.
  • Respond to employee questions with timely, practical, and empathetic guidance, ensuring alignment with policies, employment legislation, and D2L values.
  • Build effective working relationships with leaders through regular check‑ins, proactively identifying people‑related risks and opportunities.
  • Support performance management activities, including goal setting, calibration, and year‑end review cycles.
  • Partner with People & Culture Business Partners on merit, promotion, and talent review processes, including data validation and employee communications.
  • Provide operational support for compensation programs, with a focus on accuracy, equity, and consistency.
  • Support organizational changes such as restructures, leadership transitions, and role changes, including employee communications and impact assessments.
  • Contribute to job architecture and job profile development in collaboration with leaders, recruiters, and People & Culture partners.
  • Gather and synthesize feedback from sources such as listening sessions and surveys, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Lead or contribute to cross‑functional projects that enhance employee experience, operational efficiency, or data quality.
  • Manage ongoing employee relations and performance matters, including documentation and escalation of complex or high‑risk situations when needed.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Solid knowledge of employment standards and HR best practices, particularly in Canada and the United States; experience supporting multiple jurisdictions is an asset.
  • Practical experience using HRIS platforms and reporting tools, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Comfort working with data and trends to inform recommendations and decisions.
  • Experience navigating sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • An interest in improving how people programs and processes work in practice, not just in theory.

Recommended Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5–7+ years of progressive experience in a Human Resources or People and Culture role, ideally within a global, evolving, or scaling organization.
