Hy-Flex, Hi-Fail? Confronting the Gaps in Tech-Enhanced Learning

The future of higher education demands flexible, accessible, and high-quality digital learning. Yet despite the clear calls to action from major organizations (e.g., CDLRA, EDUCAUSE), many students continue to report dissatisfaction with their institutions’ online and technology-enhanced offerings. Why does this gap persist? Drawing on national and international reports, this session explores the systemic, cultural, and infrastructural barriers that prevent higher education institutions from delivering innovative, flexible learning at scale. Attendees will engage in an interactive discussion to critically assess how institutional mindsets, insufficient infrastructure, and policy gaps (particularly around accessibility) limit progress. Participants will leave with strategies to advocate for systemic change in their own contexts.
