Press Release
D2L, a global leader in learning innovation, announced that the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has selected D2L Brightspace to deliver engaging, highly accessible, and future-ready learning experiences for more than 17,000 learners across five campuses in Scotland and London.
D2L is thrilled to partner with UWS as they advance their vision for digital education. Brightspace is designed to support learners, regardless of ability, and we look forward to helping UWS build inclusive learning experiences that align with their goals and empower learners to succeed.
Ranked first for Social Mobility in Scotland by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, UWS is recognised globally for its commitment to equitable access and sustainability. Following a rigorous evaluation process, UWS selected D2L Brightspace as a modern learning platform that can deliver improved assessments, feedback, user management, and enhanced user experience. UWS is set to launch the Brightspace learning platform across all campuses in September 2026.
The decision follows D2L’s recent recognition as the #1 Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) on the Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC) framework: the procurement centre of expertise for all universities and colleges in Scotland, which can also be used by members of other UK regional higher education and further education purchasing associations.
“At UWS, we are committed to maximising our students’ success through our inclusive, technology enabled learning and teaching infrastructure, and D2L was the clear choice to help us achieve that goal,” said Professor Rachel Cragg, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning, Teaching and Student Success), at UWS. “We sought a trusted, future-ready virtual learning environment that will support our diverse student body to achieve success, and D2L stood out for its passion for inclusive learning, dedication to accessibility, exceptional customer service, and tailored approach to implementation. We are excited to work together with D2L to deliver an inclusive and engaging digital learning experience for our learners that helps us achieve our strategic goal to maximise our students’ success, aligning with our university’s purpose to drive social inclusion and reduce inequalities through education, research and knowledge exchange.”
