TU Delft Renews Longstanding Contract with D2L

Contract extension reinforces D2L’s role as a trusted learning technology company, by supporting TU Delft’s continued growth and innovation

Press Release

D2L a global leader in learning technology, is proud to announce the renewal of its contract with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the oldest public technical university in the Netherlands and a leading institution in Europe. TU Delft, which became D2L’s very first customer in the Netherlands in 2016, has chosen to renew its contract for Brightspace until 2031, further strengthening D2L’s position as a market leader in the region.

“I feel Brightspace is the right choice for TU Delft. We have worked with Brightspace for the past eight years to a lot of satisfaction of our students and our lecturers. We feel that Brightspace has the same innovative approach and the same focus on education that we have at TU Delft, and that we can grow together and be ready for the future.”

Franca Jonquiere
Manager of Teaching and Learning Services at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands

The renewal comes after TU Delft launched a mandatory public tender in 2024 to evaluate the learning management system (LMS) market and select a platform to support the next phase of the university’s growth. After evaluating multiple LMS providers based on several criteria – such as implementation and partnership, platform functionality, product roadmap and user testing – TU Delft reaffirmed its trust in D2L, selecting D2L Brightspace as its chosen LMS for the next six years.

Located in Delft, the Netherlands, TU Delft is renowned globally, particularly in the fields of architecture and engineering, and is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top universities. The university’s commitment to excellence and innovation is not only reflected in its rankings but also in its student community. The National Student Survey results in 2024 has seen overall student satisfaction rise from 71.5% in 2021 to 73.5%.

The university first contracted with D2L in 2016, introducing D2L Brightspace to help improve the learning experience for its more than 20,000 students. Since then, the customer relationship has flourished, with D2L continuing to support the university’s commitment to providing a more personalised and engaging learning environment. With the renewal of their contract, TU Delft continues its commitment to helping to shape the future of digital learning and reinforcing its position as a global leader in technical education.

“Choosing the right learning platform is a critical decision for us,” said Klara Bonder, Team Lead, Educational Applications at TU Delft. “Our partnership with D2L and the Brightspace platform over the past five years has proven invaluable. D2L has been a consistent and reliable partner that truly understands our unique challenges and ambitions. Its solutions have allowed us to enhance the learning experience for both our students and faculty. We are confident that this continued partnership will drive innovation and help us deliver the very best learning experience for years to come.”

“We are thrilled to be selected once again as the learning platform for such a prestigious institution as TU Delft. Since Brightspace was first implemented in 2016, the customer relationship has been built on shared values of innovation and excellence. We are excited to see TU Delft push the boundaries of what can be possible in education and help support them in shaping the future of learning.”

Stewart Watts, Senior Vice President, EMEA & APAC at D2L

D2L Brightspace has built a strong reputation for excellence, with its success widely recognised across the industry. In September 2024, it was ranked at the top of the Tambellini StarChart, an annual report from leading higher education analyst firm, the Tambellini Group, earning top marks in both usability and innovation. Additionally, D2L Brightspace was honoured with two awards at the 2024 SIIA CODiE Awards, being named both “Best Learning Management System” and “Best Customer Education LMS,” reinforcing its position as a leader in the field.
