Implementation

What sets D2L apart is the way we continue to actively collaborate and work with our customers after contract signing and implementation. D2L does not simply walk away after the formal implementation tasks are delivered. In fact, we view implementation as the first stage of our working relationship.

Our goal is for you to feel like D2L is an extension of your team. We know that you can be pressed for time and resources and may have concerns about how change can affect your institution. That’s why we follow an implementation process that centres around your goals and objectives, which can ease the burden on faculty, staff and students—even when the pressure is on.

We can help with everything from strategic guidance and change management to migration assistance, integration and training. These efforts can be taken in tandem with the pedagogical support from our Learning Services team who can help structure and uplift course content, and sharing best practices, templates and recommendations to help deliver even better results.

Launch

“The implementation team at D2L is one of the most valuable parts of the project. We were able to hit tight deadlines and deliver a consistently excellent user experience in the implementation project because the implementation team were a true partner – responsive, customer-focused focused and committed to excellence.”

Dr Vincenzo Repaci
Senior Project Manager, Charles Sturt University

“Our adoption of Brightspace has also been accompanied by an important shift in how we think about the resources that we need and how we will utilise them going forward. We benefited from strong buy-in and strong user engagement. Cultural change is very important, but you have to be realistic and work with people.”

Training and user adoption

As well as setting up user testing groups in the pilot phase, D2L can get you up to speed more quickly by offering on-demand training built by former educators. We can also help you to build a more personalised plan to help you hit your goals. Plus, we can connect you with a dedicated trainer to help build deeper expertise on the specific knowledge and tools that you need to succeed.

Customer success

Following implementation, our Customer Success Management team can work with you to see that you can achieve the goals that motivated you to make the switch to Brightspace in the first place. We can work with you on growth mapping and maturity evaluations to help identify if anything is getting in the way of your success, and how we can help bridge the gap from where you are now to where you want to be in the future.

How we can innovate and collaborate with customers

When you work with Brightspace, you can become part of an established user community, with access to Brightspace best practices and a whole host of resources that can help you shape superior learning experiences. We invite your input further through our Product Idea Exchange (PIE), design research, advisory boards, regional events and user groups.

When you work with D2L, you can benefit from the support of a global team of designers, practitioners, educators, developers, engineers, specialists and strategists—all driven by wanting to support your success and seeing that you can achieve your original objectives.

“Over 16 years with D2L, what stands out most is that it’s never felt like a vendor relationship. D2L genuinely listens, understands our strategic priorities, and works alongside us to achieve them. That ongoing partnership and mutual commitment are what make the relationship so valuable.”

learning environments manager, Deakin University

Collaboration in practice

Educational organisations, governments and corporations often seek opportunities to improve teaching and learning worldwide. Our dedication to supporting customers is evidenced through our deep collaboration and commitment to helping improve the learning moment.

Elevating course design with the University of Huddersfield

While working with the University of Huddersfield, D2L created an offsite staff retreat, where educators could collaborate, share best practices and explore how to more effectively use Brightspace to improve teaching and learning through course design. As an output of this retreat, University of Huddersfield and D2L co-authored a journal article around “transforming the online learning space through advanced development retreats.”

Leveraging Brightspace to help develop metacognitive skills with University College Dublin

Another example of our dedication to collaborating with customers is evident in our work conducted with University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland both around “Leveraging the Virtual Learning Environment to Develop Metacognitive Skills in Students” and “Applying Inclusive Design Methods to Engineering“.

These examples of collaboration can allow continuous professional development, a shared commitment to innovation, and the integration of interactive, engaging tools that can support both instructors and learners.

Research endeavours

With our research, we are able to help support our growing community of customers and users and contribute to the broader dialogue and knowledge base around education, training and skills. Some examples of these efforts include:

D2L UX research

As part of our product development process, we consult with users through our user experience (UX) research. In UX research, we take a systematic approach to listening to the perspectives of our end users. This can allow us to gain a better understanding of our users and their needs so we can create products that can effectively support teaching and learning.

Whitepapers and policy briefs

D2L publishes an annual whitepaper detailing recommendations for employers, higher education institutions, training providers and governments to help better support the development of lifelong learning and skills development. This series aims to help inspire action on a long-term vision for education and training that is more technology-enabled, sustainable, inclusive and empowering for learners.
