Bringing Parents into the Classroom with Brightspace for Parents
Newly available in TDSB, Brightspace for Parents allows parents a window into your Brightspace classroom. When parents login, they see a subset of the day to day activity from your Brightspace classroom including:
- Teacher-selected Portfolio artifacts
- Current and upcoming classwork
- Activity Feed posts (not including any student comments)
- Teacher feedback
- Recent grades
In this session, you will learn which areas of Brightspace are shared with parents and get a view into what parents see when they login to the Brightspace for Parents tool.

Portfolio in Practise K to 12: Tips from TDSB Educators
Hear directly from a TDSB kindergarten and high school teacher as they share how they use the Portfolio tool in their classrooms to document student learning including:
- Key ways it can be used in multiple subject areas in elementary & high school
- Types of feedback that can be provided (curriculum expectations, private/public comments)
- Examples of artifacts from kindergarten and high school students
- Managing QR codes
Documenting Student Learning: Introduction to Brightspace Portfolio
Looking for a TDSB supported, safe and secure portfolio tool to capture student learning? An integral part of D2L’s Brightspace, thePortfolio tool offers students from kindergarten to Grade 12 the ability to capture and reflect on their work in the moment and gives educators a way to easily provide feedback on student work. During this webinar, you will learn how to:
- Login to Brightspace
- Use the Portfolio tool for pedagogical documentation and lifelong learning
- Navigate, manage, and configure settings in the Portfolio tool
This session will also include an instructional demo of the Brightspace Portfolio tool including the web experience and apps, and end with a 15 minute live Q&A.
More about Brightspace for Ontario
Brightspace is available through a provincial Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at no cost to Ontario’s publicly funded school boards provided by the Ministry of Education.
The VLE includes digital portfolios, assignments, rubrics, lessons linked to curriculum expectations, quizzes, and much more! Hands-on breakout sessions will show you how to save time while increasing student engagement and achievement using the VLE. With such a wide variety of features, functionality, and flexibility, the VLE will appeal to all teachers—from the tech newbie to the tech guru!
