The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) has awarded Desire2Learn a major 5-year contract to provide enterprise eLearning solutions to the six universities, thirteen two-year colleges and twenty-six technology centers that make up Tennessee’s state university system.
The Tennessee Board of Regents, America’s sixth largest higher education system, issued a formal RFI in July 2005 to evaluate commercial and open source course management software. As a result of a formal RFP, issued in June 2006, three vendors submitted proposals as potential candidates. The detailed, multi-step evaluation process involved review of both technical and cost proposals. “It was during the technical part of the evaluation process, specifically the vendor demonstrations for the middle, east, and west portions of the state to answer stakeholders’ questions, that Desire2Learn emerged as the clear leader,” stated Angela Gregory, Director of Purchasing and Contracts, Tennessee Board of Regents. “Desire2Learn gave the strongest presentation. They were able to engage the audience, deal with all stakeholders’ concerns, demonstrate the platform’s ease of use and prove that they would deliver exactly as promised. Given the extensive scale of this initiative we required a partner with the technological savvy as well as the ability and commitment to ensure our success.”
The Desire2Learn Enterprise eLearning Suite will be available this fall for all six universities, thirteen two-year colleges and twenty-six technology centers across Tennessee’s state university system. “Desire2Learn is honored to be selected as the eLearning provider for the Tennessee Board of Regents,” states John Baker, Desire2Learn President & CEO, “The Tennessee Board of Regents has an impressive track record charting the way for the use of online learning in higher education. Desire2Learn will assist TBR in continuing this tradition and exceeding the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s learners.”
TBR purchased the Desire2Learn Learning Environment, Learning Repository, LiveRoom and Hosting services. Desire2Learn will also provide the third tier in Tennessee’s three tiered support desk. Training has already begun for many of the institutions.
