A leading university in Ecuador becomes the first major higher education user of the Desire2Learn platform in Latin America
Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of enterprise teaching and learning platforms, today announced that Ecuador’s highest ranking university, Universidad San Francisco de Quito, has converted to Desire2Learn® Learning Suite.
With a scheduled implementation of August 2011, Universidad San Francisco de Quito will launch the Desire2Learn platform for use among 6,000 students and 1,000 faculty and staff as an integral component of its eLearning revitalization strategy. Having previously worked with two separate learning management systems (LMS), Desire2Learn will enable the university to consolidate their content onto one platform.
“During the selection process, a key consideration was the future direction of each of the systems,” states Dr. Gonzalo Mendieta, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Universidad San Francisco de Quito. “We found Desire2Learn to be interested in providing high-quality online education for the long-term rather than focusing on the quick sale. They provided consultancy and high-quality service, and offered support to assist us in finding the right solutions.”
San Francisco de Quito will leverage the Desire2Learn Learning Suite including:
to deliver their online and blended learning programs in an improved and more efficient way. Plans for implementing Desire2Learn Analytics and mobile technologies within the next year are also in the works.
Universidad San Francisco de Quito has ambitious goals for their online learning program, planning to expand their course offerings beyond Ecuador to the entire range of Spanish-speaking Latin America. Desire2Learn Learning Suite is an integral part of the international expansion plan that the university plans to implement to deliver leading education outside the country’s borders.
“With Desire2Learn, we feel comfortable pursuing our international strategy in a more aggressive way,” remarks Mendieta. “While we had envisioned expanding the university’s reach through online education, we now have both the technology and the necessary support from Desire2Learn to execute on the idea and make it a reality. San Francisco de Quito now has the tools to take our leading reputation around Latin America.”
“Students in Ecuador have greatly benefited from the commitment that Universidad San Francisco de Quito has made to delivering leading, high-quality education,” states John Baker, President & CEO, Desire2Learn. “We look forward to supporting the university as it expands its reputation beyond Ecuador’s borders. We are excited that the students of this leading institution will be the first university users of Desire2Learn in Latin America. As Universidad San Francisco de Quito expands its reach throughout Latin America, we will be working right alongside them to transform teaching and learning at the university and at other institutions throughout the region.”
