North Island Distance Education School Selects the Desire2Learn Learning Platform

Press Release

North Island Distance Education School seeks academic enterprise system to improve teaching and learning.

Desire2Learn, a world-leading provider of enterprise learning systems,
today announced that North Island Distance Education School (NIDES), which serves students on the North end of Vancouver Island has selected the
Desire2Learn Learning Environment to offer both online and blended courses to their students. Over the next three years, the school will move the
entire student body over to Desire2Learn.  This decision follows an ongoing evaluation process across the provincial distance education schools in British Columbia, in search of an eLearning environment.

“The reputation of Desire2Learn met the functionality and tools we were looking for in a learning management system,” states Sheila Shanahan, NIDES
Principal.  “We are very excited to be working with Desire2Learn’s research and technology, as well as being able to share in the expertise and support of the Desire2Learn Users Community.  We are very excited to be a part of a professional community to share ideas and best practices.”

With the assistance of Desire2Learn, NIDES will be able to personalize their instructors’ courses to ensure a consistent and familiar learning
environment across the organization for all their users.  NIDES works closely with school districts in North Island and assists students in working
independently but not alone through offering students the opportunity to be a part of their learning community and allowing them to complete the
program at their own pace.  The Desire2Learn Learning Environment will enable NIDES to take a collaborative approach to teaching through its
increased functionality, ease of use, and scalability.

“We’re pleased that NIDES has selected Desire2Learn, and we look forward to working together with their teams to assist them to successfully
participate in high quality online education, expand course offerings, and improve learner achievement,” states John Baker, Desire2Learn President
& CEO.  The Desire2Learn system offers complete flexibility and has development tools that provide faculty and staff the ability to customize their
courses to parallel their teaching methodology.  The system also allows instructors to reuse materials from semester to semester, and to take advantage of publisher content.
