Pedagogical focus, service and reliability are key attributes in decision to implement Desire2Learn online learning management system
Desire2Learn Incorporated (Desire2Learn), a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise eLearning solutions, welcomes McMaster University, one of the world’s leading universities and renowned for its innovation in both learning and discovery, to the growing list of clients adopting Desire2Learn Learning Environment®.
As part of McMaster’s ongoing commitment to providing teachers and students with the highest quality online experience, the Centre for Leadership and Learning (CLL) at McMaster recently conducted an extensive campus-wide, inclusive needs assessment. They wanted to ensure that the learning management system (LMS) selected best met the needs of the organization in building upon its long-standing tradition of a culture of innovation.
“Our first priority is ensuring our students receive the highest quality education possible,” says Dr. Ilene Busch-Vishniac, Provost and Vice-President Academic, McMaster University. “A robust and reliable learning management system is an important tool to help McMaster deliver the world-class education our students expect and deserve. We’re looking forward to working with Desire2Learn as the new learning management system is introduced on campus.”
Pilot courses will be hosted on the Desire2Learn platform during the summer with full implementation occurring in time for the Fall 2010 term. Both Continuing Education and a 25,000 undergraduate and graduate student complement will use the Desire2Learn Learning Environment.
“Functionality, stability, reliability and creation of a sense of community were the critical components being sought in an LMS,” says Dr. Susan Vajoczki, Director, CLL, McMaster University. “Additionally, we were looking for a vendor that put pedagogy at the forefront; that shared our vision. We are very confident we have found that in Desire2Learn.”
Desire2Learn Analytics will also be incorporated providing real business data to solve critical business issues along with driving a deeper understanding of the institution’s eLearning program performance.
“The learning management system is increasingly important for students,” comments Vajoczki. “The LMS must be reliable, expandable and adaptable and we’re confident that the Desire2Learn solution ensures our students will have a system that is high quality and will be an essential factor as they learn and study.”
“We are thrilled to be working with McMaster University,” states John Baker, President & CEO, Desire2Learn. “Our partnership with McMaster will provide the necessary services and technology to supply both a reliable system that meets all the functional requirements, as well as one that will enhance the student educational experiences and help transform teaching and learning.”
