The Brightspace Migration

In Spring 2020, the University voted to implement a new Learning Management System (LMS). Our new LMS will be Brightspace by D2L. During the 2020-2021 academic year, Brightspace will begin to replace Moodle as the technology used to support classroom instruction with access to Moodle ending in June 2021.

Browser Requirements

In order to have the best possible experience in Brightspace, please use one of these recommended browsers. While Brightspace will work most likely work on earlier versions, newer features have not been fully tested in these environments.

  • Chrome 81 (released in April 2020)

  • Chromium-based Edge 81 (released in April 2020)

  • Edge Legacy 44 (not receiving any further updates)

  • Safari 13 (released in September 2019)

  • Firefox 76 (releases May 5th, 2020)

Brightspace Transition Timeline

May 2020 (Complete)

    • Early adopters sought to participate in the Fall and Spring pilots of Brightspace

    • Interested parties offered accounts in the Brightspace Test Environment (BTE)

    • Subscription training available to all faculty. (Self-paced)

Summer 2020 (Complete)

    • The Brightspace Learning Environment (BLE) will be created.

    • All faculty are encouraged to begin the subscription training.

    • Early adopters create and build courses within the BTE until the time that the BLE is available.

    • Training opportunities hosted by ETS will become available to all faculty

        • Fridays in July starting with July 10th, at 10:30am

Fall 2020 (In Progress)

    • Early adopters who are participating in the fall pilot will teach using Brightspace.

    • All faculty are encouraged to continue, or complete, the subscription training.

    • Workshops and training opportunities will continually be available to all faculty.

        • Mondays at 2pm and Thursdays at 10am Starting the week of 9/21

Spring 2021

    • Early adopters who are participating in the spring pilot will teach using Brightspace.

    • All faculty are encouraged to complete the subscription training.

    • Workshops and training opportunities will continually be available to all faculty and students.

        • Dates: TBD

May 2021

    • Brightspace will be the default learning management system during the May 2021 session.

    • All May courses will be available for instructors in Brightspace by the end of January.

    • All faculty are strongly encouraged to complete the subscription training.

    • Workshops and training opportunities will continually be available to all faculty and students.

        • Dates: TBD

Summer I 2021

    • Brightspace will continue to be the default learning management system during the Summer I 2021 session.

    • All faculty are strongly encouraged to complete the subscription training.

        • Access to this training will end on 6/30/2021.

    • Workshops and training opportunities will continually be available to all faculty and students.

        • Dates: TBD

    • Moodle is moved to archive status and is not available to instructors or students.
