Industry and Education Leaders Collaborate at FUSION 2012 Leadership Program

Press Release

Sparking ideas and strategies for inspiring learner success, industry and education leaders will be joined by leading experts on the future of education

Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”) announced that industry and education leaders are participating today in the FUSION Leadership Program, a day of collaborative discussion and strategy development at Desire2Learn’s ninth annual users’ conference.

Previously known as the FUSION Executive Program, this is the fifth year that this unique event has been offered to provide education and industry leaders an intimate gathering to exchange ideas and fuel strategies for the future of education. This year’s Leadership Program consists of a cross-section of leaders from higher education institutions worldwide as well as executives from K-12, corporate and government, and focuses on the synergy that needs to exist between industry and education to ensure learner success.

In the current educational environment of budget constraints, limited resources, and increased competition, leadership is necessary in both education and industry to set goals for the future and see them through to completion. Generating discussion amongst attendees with breakout discussions as well as speaker presentations, the Leadership Program will better equip leaders to confront the challenges they face.

Jon Aull, Executive Director of Operations for the Regents Online Campus Collaborative at the Tennessee Board of Regents, will be facilitating the day. John Baker, President & CEO, Desire2Learn, will address the Leadership Program in the morning and will be followed by two speaker presentations during the day:

  • Donald M. Norris, President, Strategic Initiatives Inc.: Donald M. Norris is a recognized thought leader, consultant, and author on the future of education. He will speak to attendees about how they can be reimagine education in a post-recession climate to improve student success while achieving financial sustainability.
  • Peter Smith, Senior Vice President of Academic Strategies and Development, Kaplan Higher Education: Peter Smith has served as a member of Congress, lieutenant Governor of Vermont, a leading education administrator, and Assistant Director General for Education of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Smith will speak to Leadership Program attendees about delivering personalized degree programs and learning support systems, while strengthening their academic quality assurance programs and outcomes-based pedagogy at the program and course level.

“With the importance of education in an increasingly globalized world, this is a unique time for education with a broad set of challenges and opportunities,” remarks John Baker, President & CEO, Desire2Learn. “The Leadership Program brings together some of the foremost thinkers in education and industry today to directly address these challenges and set strategies for the future. Bringing together a collaborative pool of talent and experience is the best way for us to spark ideas and develop pathways for learner success.”
