Indiana Wesleyan University Selects D2L’s Brightspace as Learning Management System

Press Release

Top Christian Liberal Arts University Transitions to D2L for Enhanced Learning Experiences at Scale

Out with the old, in with the new. Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) will migrate its Learning Management System (LMS) to D2L’s next-generation teaching and learning platform Brightspace to support its 1,420 full-time faculty and adjuncts, as well as more than 13,200 residential and non-residential students. Learners across the university in associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs, as well as those enrolled in certificate programs, can access the new personalized learning experience to achieve improved academic results.

“Our work with IWU is an example of how higher education institutions can make a leap forward from legacy learning systems quickly and easily,” said John Baker, CEO of D2L. “IWU faculty can now reach every learner with a modern learning system enabling flexible teaching methods and a great learning experience.  We look forward to building a lasting partnership.”

IWU needed to transition quickly to a new LMS to avoid widening the gap between the limits of its current LMS and its commitment to providing exceptional learning experiences. The institution sought a new LMS that offers reliable, user-friendly, customizable features while also being easy to maintain. With D2L, IWU can deploy a more scalable, comprehensive LMS, which is custom to the university’s needs and strategic plan. The new platform helps support more diverse teaching methods, ensures 99.9 percent guaranteed uptime of full functionality and simple access for students and faculty.

IWU has three main academic units, which include traditional residential four-year students, non-residential students who are part of adult education programs and seminary students. The university’s strategy is to increase LMS adoption rates among its student body to improve learning experiences and outcomes.

“We encourage our students and faculty to be leaders of “world change,” focusing on personal character and scholarship,” said Stacy Hammons, university provost and chief academic officer at IWU. “To further this academic mission, we needed to accelerate widespread LMS adoption. D2L provides our community with a scalable and simple platform, which will help us foster collaboration and maintain a high level of caring contact with our students.”

IWU will unveil the new Brightspace learning experience to students and faculty this fall.
