Harrisburg Area Community College Adopts Desire2Learn Learning Suite

Press Release

Central Pennsylvania's Community College selects Desire2Learn® Learning Suite for its adaptability, expandability and mobile-capability

D2L Ltd. (Desire2Learn) is pleased to announce that Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is migrating to Desire2Learn® Learning Suite following 11 years with another vendor-based learning management system (LMS).

With an online learning program spanning five campuses in Central Pennsylvania, as well as a global Virtual Campus, HACC plans to adopt Desire2Learn for 2,000 credit and noncredit courses. When the system is fully deployed in January 2012, approximately 15,000 students will be engaged online with Desire2Learn’s products in both blended and online-only formats delivered by nearly 300 faculty members.

We believe that Desire2Learn is going to assist in the delivery of instruction that will enable us to engage our students in learning anytime, anywhere,  says Ellworth Beckmann, HACC Associate Dean of Teaching Technology Services. HACC is committed to delivering a student experience that focuses on the individual. Desire2Learn will be an integral part of our mission to deliver the best possible student-faculty experience.

HACC will harness a multi-faceted online learning experience, leveraging many aspects of the Desire2Learn Learning Suite including Desire2Learn ePortfolio and Desire2Learn Learning Repository; tools that will enable HACC to take the eLearning concept further than ever before, and enable HACC to continue to expand the role of its Virtual Campus globally.

Faculty and students are excited about the enhanced capabilities Desire2Learn will provide to our online learning programs, states Beckmann. After a committee review process that considered all the market possibilities, including open source, the consensus was Desire2Learn would enable us to deliver an enriching experience for our students.

HACC has a commitment to helping students reach beyond their potential, remarks John Baker, President, Desire2Learn. This forward-looking approach to education compliments the capabilities of Desire2Learn in delivering an engaging, enriching, and rewarding online experience.

Harrisburg Area Community College is just one of the more than forty institutions that have migrated to the Desire2Learn platform in 2011.
