Georgia Department of Education harnesses Desire2Learn Learning Suite to enable innovative approach to early intervention and assessment
D2L Ltd. (“D2L”), a member of the Desire2Learn family of companies (“Desire2Learn”), today announced that the Georgia Department of Education (DOE) has selected Desire2Learn Learning Suite. In an ambitious plan tied to the Race to the Top initiative, Georgia DOE will leverage Desire2Learn as a key partner in delivering a solution that will provide early intervention and empower teachers with access to specialized learning objects within their classrooms.
The focus of the initiative will be to support new approaches to early intervention and assessment that can better prepare students to succeed in college, the workplace and the global economy. Georgia DOE has built a robust online data system, reporting tools, a content repository, and other modules to support their data requirements but needed a partner to provide a delivery system for these content and assessment activities.
The integration of key aspects of Desire2Learn Learning Suite allows real time access to everything available in the SIS, ensuring access to learning objects specific to the needs of that student, and use of content and Dropbox – empowering schools and teachers with technology that provides a highly personalized, student centered learning experience. Desire2Learn Learning Environment can also be customized to provide specific tools by user role allowing Georgia DOE the option to easily broaden the set of available tools and activities in the future if needed. Georgia DOE is at the forefront of transforming education by providing this solution to every district and school across the state.
Desire2Learn Learning Suite is also being utilized with the Georgia Virtual School (GaVS), providing a teacher led, virtual classroom environment for middle and high school level courses across the state. Leveraging the flexibility and ease of use of the Desire2Learn Learning Environment, GaVS has developed an efficient and robust online program for its students. GaVS has also developed an extensive professional development program to track accreditation for teachers with Desire2Learn ePortfolio.
“We’re very excited to be partnering with The Georgia Department of Education in this forward-looking, innovative approach to integrating with their systems and providing the type of early intervention and personalized learning that will help transform learning in Georgia schools,” said John Baker, President, D2L Ltd.. “Desire2Learn offers Georgia DOE a forward-thinking, collaborative and flexible approach to empowering the entire learning community – applying the most advanced and modern technology available to deliver on the needs of principals, teachers and students across the state.”
“Desire2Learn has strong enduring partnerships with K-12 and higher education institutions across the state of Georgia,” said Dr. John Barge, State School Superintendent for Georgia. “As we continue to build out the technology and offer teachers and students new, more engaging ways to make the most of the learning experience, we appreciate the flexibility of the solution that Desire2Learn can offer to all our schools and districts.”.
