Fanshawe College streamlines Student Information System process with implementation of Desire2Learn platform
Desire2Learn Incorporated (Desire2Learn), a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise eLearning solutions, today announced that Fanshawe College in London, Ontario has expanded its implementation of the Desire2Learn® enterprise eLearning solution to integrate with the College’s Student Information System (SIS).
In the Spring of 2008, Fanshawe College began to explore solutions for synchronizing course enrollments between the Student Information System and the Desire2Learn eLearning Suite. The previous process involved manual enrollments into individual courses which were very time consuming for the College. Working with Desire2Learn, Fanshawe College was eager to integrate the SIS with the Desire2Learn eLearning Suite to create a more automated course enrollment process. The project was successfully completed in the Fall of 2008 and set the stage for a second project that involved the automatic transfer of student grades from the Desire2Learn system into the Student Information System. Since the integration, Fanshawe College has aligned course naming across the systems, increased responsiveness to student inquiries and optimized resource use.
“This integration has saved Fanshawe College a tremendous amount of time and expense. Desire2Learn is to be commended in their exceptional customer support throughout the transition,” stated Bob Beatty, Chief Information Officer, Fanshawe College. “Desire2Learn’s collaborative approach with our team resulted in an effortless experience for our end users. Department Chairs were delighted with the trouble-free transition. The system is running as smooth as silk.”
According to Linda Young, Manager, Learning Systems Services at Fanshawe College, “the success of the SIS course enrollment integration paved the way for the grade transfer functionality. Faculty engagement has been tremendous and 200% greater than expected at the onset. Professors were very quick to realize the time savings with automated grade transfers which had been a cumbersome, manual process.”
“Our client-focused approach resulted in a customized solution tailored for Fanshawe College’s unique needs,” stated John Baker, President & CEO, Desire2Learn. “The outcomes speak for themselves: increased faculty adoption of the eLearning suite and an enhanced student experience while also reducing administrative costs.”
