Desire2Learn Welcomes Visionary Educator Salman Khan as Keynote Speaker at FUSION 2012

As founder of the Khan Academy and one of the leading education advocates of his generation, Salman Khan will share his insights with FUSION attendees during his keynote address on July 16

Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of enterprise teaching and learning platforms, today announced that Salman Khan, founder of the Khan Academy and emerging leader in education, will be one of the keynote speakers at FUSION 2012 – Desire2Learn’s annual users’ conference.

Khan has an impressive educational background with three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as a Master of Business Administration from Harvard. He parlayed this educational experience into his work as a hedge fund analyst, but soon found a new calling. In 2004, he was helping his young cousin with a math lesson, communicating by phone and using an interactive notepad. Others started to express interest, and he began posting his hand-scribbled tutorials on YouTube.

He had found a winning idea, and in 2009, he left his day job to launch the Khan Academy – a nonprofit with the mission of providing high-quality education to “anyone, anywhere” in the world. Providing more than 3,000 instructional videos, Khan’s library of educational videos is accessed more than any other on the Web.

“At FUSION 2012, our theme is ‘Chart Your Course,’ offering educators new perspectives and innovative ways to reach their students,” remarks John McLeod, Vice-President, Marketing, Desire2Learn. “Sal Khan is a visionary with a remarkable story. His commitment to making education accessible in a global way is a vision that we share with him, and his reflections will be invaluable for the educators at FUSION.”

Khan’s keynote address is titled “Rethinking Education,” and will provide insight into the history and evolution of the Khan Academy, and how we can rethink education. Khan will deliver his keynote on July 16, the first day of FUSION, and is one of three thought-provoking keynote speakers who will address attendees during the main conference.
