Desire2Learn Inc., a world-leading provider of mission-critical enterprise eLearning systems, has recently unveiled the latest version of their Enterprise eLearning Suite including: Learning Environment 8.1, Learning Repository 3.5, and LiveRoom 4.0. The product suite will be featured at EDUCAUSE 2006 in Dallas, TX.
Desire2Learn provides the solutions for clients to meet their increasing needs to measure and assess organizational effectiveness as well as learner-outcomes. This is made possible by a comprehensive set of reporting and competency tracking tools. In addition, clients will gain significant time savings as a result of new features that enable quicker course development, greater collaboration, and content sharing.
President and CEO, John Baker, recently stated, “The release of our eLearning Suite 8.1 is our most significant new product release in the past three years. This very unique technology launching today is the direct result of significant ongoing input and collaboration with our clients, over two years of R&D, and six months of beta and performance testing.”
Desire2Learn’s Learning Environment 8.1 will enable teachers and learners globally to educate and innovate by introducing new options for measuring competencies and learning outcomes across an organization or within a program, as well as blogging, reporting and data warehousing, special email features, and granular importing and exporting options to Desire2Learn software.
“It is a product suite that has the capabilities to do what we have to do in higher ed, but mostly are not doing — assessment of student learning from when they enter our doors until they leave,” states Barry Dahl, VP of Technology & the Virtual Campus at Lake Superior College, a Minnesota State Colleges and Universities institution.
Desire2Learn’s Learning Environment 8.1 introduces the following new features:
- Competencies and Learning Outcomes Structures the definition and tracking of learning outcomes to measure organizational effectiveness and student success
- Rubrics Reduces administration time by creating a consistent means of measurement and evaluation while improving student learning
- Reporting and Data Warehouse Provides the ability to gather and present information on countless metrics in a meaningful way
- Quizzing/Self-Assessment/Surveys Provides new options for assessing and measuring student learning and gathering feedback, including cross-course surveys or quizzes
- Blogging – Increases communication and collaboration
Learning Repository 3.5 enables users to expand their Learning Environment beyond the capabilities of any other solution in the market. It allows for effective tagging, storage of objects, fast searches, easy linking/retrieval, and dramatically increases the efficiency of Learning Object reuse. Desire2Learn clients on the same instance can build common repositories between different organizations and a new enhancement in this release includes support for a federated search of the MERLOT repository. Learning Repository 3.5 will significantly increase the collaboration and communication within and between institutions through the sharing and reuse of Learning Objects.
LiveRoom 4.0 offers a number of key components including: chats, an object-based drawing canvas, quick linking of Learning Environment resources, a presentation management area, and a fully integrated web browser. This offering has been designed to improve the learning experience for all participants by allowing groups to collaborate more effectively through a real-time learning environment.
Desire2Learn’s eLearning Suite will be demonstrated at EDUCAUSE 2006, October 912 in Dallas, Texas. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Desire2Learn booth, number 435, to learn more about these innovative, future-focused product releases.
