Desire2Learn Hosts Roundtable on Personalized Learning at NECC Conference

Press Release

K-12 thought leaders to address Personalized Learning in roundtable hosted by Desire2Learn at 2007 NECC Conference in Atlanta, Georgia

Desire2Learn Inc., a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise eLearning solutions, today announced that it has hosted a roundtable at the 28th annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), bringing together thought leaders in K-12 education from across the United States.

By fostering ongoing dialogue with education leaders, Desire2Learn seeks to collaborate and enhance education practices to further the success of all students. Roundtable participants discussed ideas on how to improve student learning and enable learners to reach their highest potential, as well as close attainment gaps. Participants considered various means to make personalized learning engaging, interactive and result-oriented.

Vice President of the North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL), Bruce Friend, opened the Roundtable with an engaging presentation. Bruce has been involved in eLearning for over a decade and is the recipient of the 2003 United States Distance Learning Association’s Outstanding Achievement by an Individual Award. Stephanie Dunbar, Assistant Principal of the Georgia Virtual School, facilitated the discussion. John Baker, Desire2Learn President and CEO, and key members of the Desire2Learn team were also present.

Desire2Learn will continue the dialog on this topic and support further collaboration among the Roundtable participants. Key issues to be addressed are the degree of involvement of teachers and learners to make personalized learning effective; critically evaluating current practices; and drawing a roadmap on the use of technology.

“Desire2Learn is committed to the use of technology to improve the ways in which students learn, and personalized learning focuses on the unique needs of each student,” said John Baker, Desire2Learn President and CEO. “By bringing together experts in the field and fostering this collaborative effort, we demonstrate our belief that technology can enhance student learning, enabling them to achieve their highest potential.”

Desire2Learn has hosted similar roundtables in Great Britain and Australia as part of the company’s goal to support the advancement of teaching and learning worldwide. Desire2Learn will continue to host events such as this in an effort to continually improve student learning.
