Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise learning solutions, is pleased to be participating in and supporting the “Pie in the Face for Phil” fundraiser.
The Phil behind the fundraiser is Phil McAuley, late partner of Sabina Simons, QA Analyst, Learning Platform team with Desire2Learn. Phil lost his battle with cancer on August 17, 2010 at the age of 23. He fought a courageous battle with melanoma cancer since September 2007 and was enrolled in the University of Waterloo, Software Engineering where he maintained his honour’s status. He was working as a co-op student at RIM (TSX: RIM, NASDAQ: RIMM) until his illness prevented him from continuing. The “Pie In the Face for Phil” fundraiser monies will support the work of the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Phil.
“We wanted to show our continued support to Sabina and Phil’s family by raising money for this worthy cause,” says Rose Kocher, Program Manager, Enterprise Architecture at Desire2Learn. “What started as a two-team/three manager event quickly grew company-wide with participation from all managers and staff. Staff and friends are eagerly raising money for the Cancer Society by donating to the “Pie in the Face for Phil” fundraiser so they can ‘pie’ their favourite manager.”
Why donate to this fundraising cause?
Not only will monies raised support the Canadian Cancer Society’s ongoing research efforts, the Desire2Learn Management Team will also take a pie in the face based on donation thresholds. For every $10 donated, a Desire2Learn staff member will qualify to win a chance to make a whipped cream pie with various toppings and put it in the face of any manager that has been committed to participate if employees meet the dollar threshold.
