Desire2Learn Announces Steve Brinder As One Of FUSION 2011 Keynotes

School teacher and comedian, Steve Brinder can engage any audience with his honesty, compassion and humour

Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of enterprise teaching and learning platforms, today announced that Steve Brinder will be the closing keynote speaker at FUSION 2011 – ELEVATE.

By day Steve is a school teacher, who is loved by his students. By night, he is a brilliant stand-up comedian. With 30 years of teaching experience, his job provides him with an endless stream of material, and the ability to be funny, without being mean. His material comes directly from the classroom and from the heart. Sharply observational and empathetic, Brinder is fascinated by the reasons people act the way they do, and often speaks to audiences about ways to make their personal and professional lives fuller – helping them to communicate with more honesty, more compassion and, of course, more humour.

Steve has performed with Jim Carrey, Jay Leno, Howie Mandel, Sean Hayes, Ryan Styles, Alan Alda and Keanu Reeves – among others. His routines have been featured on CBC and A&E. He has also performed at Evening At The Improv (Los Angeles, A&E Networks), worked as a reporter for CityTV, hosted a show on CTV, starred in a CBS Movie of the Week and performed at numerous community, corporate, and educational functions.

At FUSION 2011, Steve will speak about “How to Survive Teaching with a Sense of Humour.” Teaching is often a lonely profession: educators prepare lessons by themselves, teach by themselves and mark by themselves. Based exclusively on stories from – and his own interactions with – students and teachers, Brinder examines the everyday challenges educators face. He puts things into perspective. He shares tips to help individuals stay sane, and he makes a dignified and persuasive case for how truly important educators are – that sometimes they may be the only positive light in a child’s life. By highlighting the importance of laughter in the classroom, and helping all in the audience share some laughter themselves, Brinder brings the audience together in mutual acknowledgement and joy.

“We’re very excited to have Steve Brinder address our attendees at FUSION 2011” states John McLeod, Sr. Director of Marketing, Desire2Learn. “His use of humor and social commentary enable him to connect with audiences regardless of the number of years they’ve been instructing or the level at which they teach.”
