New Desire2Learn mobile application designed to improve teacher productivity and work-life balance by enabling mobile online and offline student assessment
Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of enterprise teaching and learning platforms, today announced the debut of Desire2Learn Assignment Grader. An application for the Apple iPad tablet, Assignment Grader enables instructors and educators to manage, grade, and provide feedback on digital assignment submissions in either offline or online mode.
“I love the fact that you can view multiple file types seamlessly, such as moving from a text file to a spreadsheet with no noticeable lag,” remarks William Folden, Instructor, York Technical College. “The rubric and comment functions worked perfectly, and the voice feedback system seemed like it must have been optimized for the iPad’s mic. Even without a headset or other supplementary equipment, the audio was recorded perfectly without any ambient noise. I tried typing with my Bluetooth keyboard in the comments section and it worked immediately. In short, everything that’s been done seems to have been done perfectly.”
Educators can login with their institutional credentials to gain access to student submissions in the relevant Desire2Learn Assignment Dropbox. From there, they can make use of relevant rubrics, assign grades, and provide written, audio, or video feedback directly from their iPad. Any grading completed on Assignment Grader is automatically synchronized with Desire2Learn Learning Environment when the user is back within Wi-Fi coverage. Other features include a summarized view across all courses, and multiple view and sorting options for individual assignments and Dropboxes. Assignment Grader is compatible with Desire2Learn Learning Environment version 9.4 or higher.
“Sometimes the volume of grading that a teacher or instructor has to do can be overwhelming. We truly wanted to deliver something that makes instructors’ lives easier, something that enables them to go away for the weekend or attend their kids’ soccer practices without falling behind on grading,” said David Kruis, Senior Director, Product Planning, Desire2Learn. “This is the first time an integrated, offline-capable product like this has been available to them, and it makes it possible for educators to do their grading anytime, anywhere without the burden of managing paper-based assignments.”
Assignment Grader is available as both a free “Lite” version with demo mode and a $9.99 full version from the App Store. For more information visit www.desire2learn.com/assignmentgrader/
