D2L connects instructors and learners with Brightspace Pulse, the first mobile app that enables students to receive critical course notifications, understand what’s going on across all their courses and prepare for it, unify their calendars, and see their grades.
D2L (formerly “Desire2Learn”) today announces that it is connecting instructors and students with Brightspace Pulse, the first mobile app that enables students to receive time-sensitive course information and prepare for it. As a leading edtech innovator, D2L has a proven track record of “education firsts” and Brightspace Pulse is D2L’s next move into mobile learning.
Designed to inform students on their workload, schedules, and grades, Brightspace Pulse gives students what they need so that they can manage their study time, priorities, and workload. With one quick view, students can look at their courses to see what readings, assignments and tests are coming up as well as add their own personal milestones. Students can also customize their workload views with weekly, monthly, or term visualizations. With grade notifications, learners can choose when and where to swipe to reveal their grade, avoiding awkward situations or simply nosy friends.
With Brightspace Pulse, teachers also benefit as they have the ability to deliver real-time alerts and notifications like “assignment due tomorrow,” “classroom moved,” or “guest speaker” directly to the student’s mobile phone. The new functionality will increase productivity by enabling them to do less “reminding” and more teaching. In addition, students can easily share grades and news item notifications to other applications (i.e. Mail, Message, Evernote®, Twitter, and Facebook).
“Students have embraced mobile devices and apps in their daily lives. Brightspace Pulse gives learners the critical information they need on their iOS and Android™ phones,” said John Baker, CEO of D2L. “The app will deliver a series of innovations designed to help students stay on track and enable teachers to transform the way they deliver learning for the mobile era.”
Baker continued: “Students told us that they expect more when engaging with their teachers and institutions. Today’s always-connected learners need instant updates and Brightspace Pulse delivers what they need in real-time.”
