D2L’s Brightspace Platform Chosen to Appeal to Three Generations of Learners

Global learning technology leader D2L announced American Refining Group Inc. (ARG) will use the D2L learning platform Brightspace to train and develop the skills of its diverse and multigenerational staff.

ARG, the owner of the Bradford, Pa., refinery established in 1881, is one of the community’s largest employers. In a highly regulated industry in which safety and compliance training is crucial, ARG needed to modernize its training model and help its employees take advantage of learning that goes beyond minimum requirements.

Together with D2L, ARG is digitizing and centralizing training as it switches over to a blended learning environment — mixing computer-based modules with classroom engagement. At the same time, the company is expanding its learning offerings to support the continuous improvement of more than 350 multigenerational staff members faced with a changing and increasingly competitive marketplace.

“We’re developing a workforce that is invested in continuous learning — both for themselves and for the long-term sustainability of our company,” said Jeannine Schoenecker, ARG President and Chief Operating Officer. “This is challenging with a staff that spans three generations, each with unique capabilities and learning styles.”

With Brightspace, the organization can track learner outcomes, enabling ARG to identify gaps and make training improvements. ARG will soon use Brightspace to build learning pathways and career progression plans across all areas of the organization, roles and competencies.

  • The refinery has a rated capacity of 11,000 barrels per day.
