COLDINSQUI Selects D2L’s Brightspace to Personalize Training for Surgical Professionals

Press Release

D2L will support the college’s expansion in Colombia and across Latin America

D2L, a global learning technology leader, today announces that COLDINSQUI (Colombian College of Surgical Instrument Assistants) has selected its Brightspace learning management system (LMS) to provide more personalized training to surgical instrument assistants, and enable the college to expand in Colombia and being recognized in Latin America.

Established in Bogota in 2007, COLDINSQUI offers professional development through continuing education. Starting in April, it will use Brightspace to commence registration for ReTHUS, a Unique Registry of Human Talent in Healthcare. In addition, Brightspace will provide certifications for surgical instrument assistants through public functions delegated by the Health and Social Protection Ministry in Colombia, the second most populated country in South America. With Brighstpace, COLDINSQUI will be able to fulfill its purpose of keeping professionals updated in order to provide excellent healthcare services, especially to those who haven’t been able to access the institution’s services through traditional methods. In addition, according to the professional competencies set for Colombia, the college will be able to adapt the material for its courses and boost the quality level of its training.

Recognizing the demand for more continuous enrollment and the ability to train surgical instrument assistants remotely, COLDINSQUI began a Brightspace pilot program in 2017: “We decided to implement a virtual continuous education program where all surgical instrument assistants could access the courses from Colombia and other countries,” said Daniel Alexis Espitia, COLDINSQUI’s Executive Assistant to the Presidency. “Thanks to Brightspace we have had the opportunity to reach professionals in other countries such as Mexico and Uruguay. Through the platform, we have real-time and personalized communication, and we have been able to reach people that we couldn’t before.”

Headquartered in Bogota, COLDINSQUI also has representatives in Cali, Bucaramanga, Medellin, Pereira, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Valledupar, Tunja, and the Eastern Planes.  Brightspace will broaden the organization’s reach:

  1. Daylight, the new modern user experience in Brightspace, makes it easy to create dynamic and personalized learning experiences for learners on any device.
  2. Virtual Classroom will enable Instructors to conduct live two-way discussions with learners, offer video-based training and conduct online office hours within the LMS with only a few clicks.
  3. Brightspace LeaPTM, D2L’s adaptive learning tool, will enable COLDINSQUI to identify specific learning needs and recommend content to learners in areas they need to improve.

“This partnership will help transform professional training, professional updating, and distance learning for surgical instrumentation professionals across Colombia and other countries in the region,” said D2L President & CEO John Baker. “We’re working with COLDINSQUI to deliver a modern, and personalized learning experience that can reach every learner – regardless of their location – and adapts to their individual needs.”

COLDINSQUI was established in 2007 with the mission of ensuring that surgical instrumentation professionals conduct their work with the highest ethical and legal standards. COLDINSQUI works with support from ACITEQ, which advocates for the interests of the surgical instrument guild, and with ACFIQ, which supports the profession’s academic processes. COLDINSQUI, ACITEQ, ACFIQ, will ensure the quality of the training of the different programs, for the continuous improvement of the professional practice and for the labor rights of professionals in their working relationships.
