CDMN Canada 3.0 to Harness Latest in Digital Media to Live-Stream Keynotes via Desire2Learn Capture

Press Release

Canadian Digital Media Network leveraging Desire2Learn Capture to deliver rich-media CaptureCast™ during Canada 3.0 Conference

Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), today announced that the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) will utilize Desire2Learn Capture to deliver rich-media webcasts at Canada’s premier digital media forum, Canada 3.0.

When the fourth annual CDMN Canada 3.0 forum convenes in Stratford on April 24-25, keynote speakers in the “main tent” session and some of the breakout session speakers will reach a broader audience thanks to capture video using Desire2Learn Capture software. Video of keynote speakers and some of the breakout sessions will be live-streamed and “captured” for on-demand viewing, making the forum truly a digital event.

“As Canada’s premier digital media forum, Canada 3.0 attracts close to 2,000 leaders from businesses, government and academia each year,” said Kevin Tuer, Managing Director of the CDMN. “Attendees expect to see the latest in digital media technology, and Desire2Learn Capture is a prime example.”

Desire2Learn Capture is a webcasting product that gives organizations the ability to capture and broadcast rich media presentations – with audio, video and visual aids – to online audiences, live and on-demand. Desire2Learn Capture records everything the speaker says as well as what they show via PowerPoint charts or other presentation tools.

Desire2Learn Capture was used at the 2011 forum for a limited number of speakers and sessions, and because of that the CDMN Canada 3.0 website received 10 times the number of site visits than normal. Tuer says that being able to share more from the forum this year will enable more Canadians to be aware of Canada 3.0 and the important issues being discussed.

“Because we could capture and post speaker presentations and their presentation materials instantly, the 3,200 members of CDMN’s online community could access content from anywhere around the world both during and after the conference,” Tuer said. “This year, we’re looking forward to being able to share even more of the forum with people globally.”

The CDMN Canada 3.0 digital media forum strives to remove barriers to Canada’s progress in digital media, with the “Moonshot” goal that “anyone can do anything online in Canada by 2017.” Desire2Learn is a gold sponsor of the event and also developed the Canada 3.0 Conference Minder app enabling attendees to interact with each other during the conference.

Desire2Learn technology will also be put to work by Communitech, the organization in Waterloo Region that represents 800+ tech companies. Based on the success of the software at Canada 3.0, Communitech will be adopting the technology for use live-streaming and capturing content from programs such as PR101, Peer2Peers sessions, and other such events.

“To be successful, innovation must be a collaborative process that harnesses the power of the best minds and talents,” remarks Dennis Kavelman, Chief Operating Officer. “With Desire2Learn Capture, CDMN and Communitech are enabled to reach a broader and more diverse audience than ever before; this brings more people into a collaborative learning process.”
