BCcampus Adopts Desire2Learn Solution As One of Its Shared Services

Press Release

Desire2Learn solution functionality, scalability and security meet B.C. post-secondary institutions' needs.

Desire2Learn Inc., a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise eLearning solutions, announced today that BCcampus, B.C.’s web-based gateway for online learning tools and resources, has adopted the Desire2Learn solution as one of its shared services for the province’s public post-secondary system.

Serving B.C.’s public post-secondary students, educators and institutions, BCcampus provides one-stop access to online educational resources, including online learning management tools. One of BCcampus’ key goals is to facilitate affordable, efficient acquisition of online learning tools and technologies on behalf of post-secondary institutions across British Columbia. To achieve this goal, BCcampus faces the challenge of meeting the needs of B.C.’s 26 public post-secondary institutions as it sources eLearning tools and technologies on their behalf.

Key factors in selecting the Desire2Learn learning management solution were its enhanced usability, increased flexibility for tailoring both the learning environment and the branding for each institution, and its ability to seamlessly integrate with the BCcampus portal. The Desire2Learn Learning Environment offers institutions a comprehensive framework to improve learner achievement and measure institutional effectiveness.

“We selected the Desire2Learn enterprise eLearning platform as one of the key learning management systems we offer as a shared service as it has the functionality, scalability and security required, while enabling individual institutions to control their own branding and business environment,” said David Porter, Executive Director of BCcampus. “These are important features for the institutions and educators who offer their online courses and programs through BCcampus.”

“We are privileged to provide the type of eLearning solution that BCcampus was seeking to suit the unique needs of B.C.’s public post-secondary system,” stated John McLeod, Desire2Learn Director of Marketing. “Our focus is to create an outstanding educational experience for all users enabling increased sharing of expertise, technology and learning resources through our integrated eLearning solution.”

BCcampus and its partner institutions will be using Desire2Learn hosted services to provide the platform infrastructure. This initiative, which became operational in April 2007, provides participating institutions with the ability to seamlessly manage their online learning environments through BCcampus.
