Access to Learning with Brightspace

Leveraging CARES Act funds to build resiliency into your classrooms

With the unprecedented disruption to education caused by COVID-19, access to learning has been disrupted for millions of students. As school districts attempt to reopen, creating resiliency in access will be critical to ensure students are not left without learning should buildings need to close again. The Brightspace platform is built for resilience – to connect students to their schools on any device, anywhere, for any student.

Brightspace is the leading learning management platform designed from the ground up for mobile access. Its ingrained responsive design means it can be accessed from any browser—be it a cell phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or other—so that students can learn from anywhere and at any time. No apps required.

Access content offline

Online learning is a valuable resource in times like these, but we recognize that many students may lack access to internet or functional devices. Brightspace features offline content access to make sure that more learners can access materials from anywhere.

Reach every learner in your class

Accessibility and universal design for learning are front and center at D2L. Brightspace tools that enable you to make all courses accessible for students with disabilities, such as content templates, a color picker, and alternative text prompts. The LMS also facilitates multiple options for differentiated instruction, such as competency-based learning (CBE), conditional release of materials, and the creation of groups for learning accommodation purposes.

We align our development process with global accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA standards, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the WCAG Checklist, and Section 508 VPAT. This commitment to universal design for learning means our platform is designed with accessibility in mind and to be interoperable with assistive technologies.
