About the Infographic
As the higher education system in India evolves and diversifies, the community is increasingly concerned about the quality of programmes, assessments and international rankings of higher education institutions. To combat unprecedented times like COVID-19 and to ensure continuity in the teaching-learning process, UGC has played an essential role by issuing necessary guidelines and advisories from time to time.
If a higher education institution wishes to start an online university and offer its courses online to students, UGC recommends standard guidelines for an online learning platform. UGC recommends that an institution is free to choose SWAYAM, an online portal for teaching and learning launched by the government or adopt a NON-SWAYAM platform (private online learning platform) that meets defined provisions and parameters. The learning platform, other than SWAYAM, used for the delivery of online programmes shall be reviewed and assessed by a Technical Expert Committee duly constituted by the UGC & the learning platform shall broadly cover five provisions and 25 parameters.
