Associations Need to Radically Change Their Approach to Knowledge Development

Next year, more than 3.6 million baby boomers will retire from the workforce leaving a huge hole in organisational knowledge and leadership. Stepping in to fill the void is the millennial. Born between the years of 1982 and 1993, this new cohort of professional workers will constitute 75% of the workforce by 2025.

The sheer volume of turnover occurring within the workforce, as boomers exit and millennials enter, presents a perfect storm opportunity for professional associations and credentialing organisations. If associations are able to adapt their business and learning models to the needs of the millennial, they will have an ideal opportunity to position their organisations as critical knowledge enablers. In turn, this will help the next generation of professionals prepare for – and stay abreast of – the skills required for the career that lies ahead.
