The Legal Co-op will assist with specific legal research, regulatory and contract analysis, corporate file management, department metrics, training development, as well as working with technologies such as PowerBI, Confluence, Jira, and SharePoint.

General Description (Job Summary):


The Legal Co-op will assist with specific legal research, regulatory and contract analysis, corporate file management, department metrics, training development, as well as working with technologies such as PowerBI, Confluence, Jira, and SharePoint. 

This is an opportunity gain real-life, hands-on experience in an in-house legal department with a rapidly growing technology company. The position is part of a collaborative, team-based approach to corporate legal services and would be ideal for any student considering law school.


Major Responsibilities (How Will I Make an Impact?):

  • Work with counsel to analyze regulatory requirements for specific legal and software technology compliance requirements and assist in remedying any identified gaps
  • Collaborating with the department to create an electronic strategic knowledge centre (help articles, precedent files, clause libraries) and internal company training materials
  • Help maintain, update and review corporate files such as minute books, contracts, and policies
  • Assist counsel in conducting due diligence in conjunction with D2L’s global operations
  • Support the continuous improvement of legal and business processes to promote the use of technology for efficiency
  • Any other tasks as assigned from time to time

•       Comfortable learning new technologies and putting those new skills into practice

•       Ability to work independently and with cross functional teams

•       Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization, a positive attitude, strong commitment to ethical conduct, thoughtfulness, as well as collaboration and creativity

Educational Requirements:

o   Excellent academic credentials

o   Candidates must be enrolled in a co-op undergraduate, masters or PhD program diploma or degree program at a Canadian University or College

•       Candidates selected for an interview may be required to complete an online writing test.
