The study anytime, anywhere model of education was an essential part of these athletes' training.
There are three pillars that support the dreams of any young athlete’s Olympic pursuit: family, training, and school. And while so much work goes into training, supported by family, education can easily take a back seat. For students in Ontario chasing their dreams, it means having to work extra hard to also maintain their academics and earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. But in the past decade or so, new technology such as a K12 LMS has emerged to enable schools like Virtual High School to be able to offer online courses to better assist in the demanding schedules that athletic training can involve. As the 2018 winter Olympics are just about to start, we thought we’d give a shout out to VHS for helping to inspire and educate some of our great Canadian Olympians.
Virtual High School provides student athletes an enriching education
VHS offers classes that are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, delivered through their K12 LMS. Because the system allows teachers to reach out quickly to provide timely feedback, students receive a personalized learning experience, regardless of where they are. Their teachers are specifically trained and highly skilled in the online environment and encourage independence and self-motivation from their students. So even if students have to take a quiz after dinner, they still get the same degree of teacher engagement that they would were they sitting in a classroom.
K12 LMS adds that flexibility that some students need
Jackie Loebach (User and Experience Marketing from Virtual High School) explains how valuable the flexibility in course offerings can be to students looking for an asynchronous learning experience as offered through a K12 LMS. “Generally speaking, we hear from student athletes that online learning is the only way they can continue to compete in their sport at an advanced level given the intense training schedules. Being able to access their courses when and where they want is vital in their efforts to continue their education while following their dreams.”
Student success at VHS
