FUSION 2014—Reflections from John Baker

  • 2 Min Read

This week came and went quickly!  Our FUSION 2014 keynotes really bookended everything we talked about very well—I’m so grateful to have had the chance to meet both Chris Hadfield and LeVar Burton. Colonel Hadfield really inspired us with his amazing storytelling and perspective. He left an incredible impression on me. His drive, determination and wisdom are all very impactful. Yesterday, LeVar did the same. What an incredible mission he has been on with Reading Rainbow. It’s impossible to not want to be part of all the things he is trying to do with that amazing program.

All these messages really reinforced the same theme for me—that together we can make a difference. That together we can build a brighter future. If there’s one thing I hope you all walk away with from this week, it’s an understanding that we truly appreciate what you all do on the front lines of teaching and learning every day and that we are thrilled to be part of this journey with you—working together to improve learning and make progress. Chris and LeVar’s messages were a perfect reinforcement of this vision and message.

We announced a lot of positive changes this week and it was great to talk to some of you directly to answer your questions. We want you all to leave FUSION this year with the sense that we are even more committed and focused on working with you and that Brightspace, our integrated learning platform, is a demonstration of that. When asked “why” or “why now”, it’s really quite simple: we felt it was time to clearly demonstrate our commitment to making learning pervasive, perceptive, and personalized—we help our clients with far more than just a simple LMS.

I hope all the product announcements, mission metrics, partnerships and other investments we shared show that we’re focused on delivering results for you: our clients. We’re building all this technology in partnership with you and our newly expanded Community and ongoing collaborative events like our Ignite regional forums, D2L Days and of course FUSION itself are all ways we’re investing in ensuring we continue our positive relationship and momentum. We look forward to seeing you in our community and at events throughout the year.

It was an amazing event, and thank you Nashville for hosting 1400 of us from all over the world!
